Welcome to MACaP

The Manual of Armenian Codicology and Palaeography (MACaP) strives to create a digital teaching tool for the use of students and researchers who want or need to use Armenian manuscript sources. MACaP endeavours to create a platform on which all those interested can find essential information about the structure, composition, different styles, and description of Armenian manuscripts as well as the development of the Armenian script.

The Bodleian holds Armenian manuscripts with an age range of almost 1,000 years and great thematic diversity, which magnificently illustrate the different types of texts, hands, and purposes pertaining to various manuscripts.

A Manual of Armenian Codicology and Palaeography has been a long-standing desideratum, and in digital form, showcasing the wide variety of Armenian writing by juxtaposing relevant images, will serve as an excellent modern teaching tool and pedagogically sound introductory guide.

This Digital Manuscript Toolkit project is funded by the Bodleian Library, with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

MACaP is still growing and developing. New developments, additions, and other relevant information will appear below, and on Twitter @ArmPalaeo.
