Impact

In the wake of the Bodleian exhibition Armenia: Masterpieces from an Enduring Culture in late 2015 and early 2016, MACaP hopes to raise the profile of the important collection of Armenian manuscripts housed in the Bodleian Libraries, as well as that of Armenian Studies at the University of Oxford in general.

The aesthetic quality of some images digitised for MACaP (e.g. those of ornate animal shaped script at the beginning of chapters) will appeal not only to scholars of Armenian Studies and, more generally, of Medieval History of Art, but to the wider public as well.

We hope to attract the attention of both the public and academic communities, and next to serving as a teaching tool, widening access to Bodleian materials, and taking the Bodleian collection one step further into the digital age.

The creation of a Manual is a serious and much needed scholarly contribution to the field of Armenian Studies, wherefore at the side of a digital publication, MACaP will further serve as the basis of a print publication.
